Is the Greenland halibut stock in Disko Bay in an alarming condition?

04.09.17

This is the first question in Inatsisartut asked by member Bendt B. Kristiansen, Inuit Ataqatigiit, in a § 37-question regarding the Greenland halibut stock in Disko Bay and the current situation with significantly less sold Greenland halibut in the area compared to previous years.

In his submitted § 37-case, Bendt B. Kristiansen asks a number of questions, which the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources have been requested to answer on behalf of the Ministry of Fisheries and Hunting.

The response outlines the background to why the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources recommends Naalakkersuisut to match the biological advice of 6,400 tonnes for Disko Bay this year, as soon as possible.
