Marine Carbon Cycle

The Arctic climate and the seas around Greenland are currently changing at dramatic rates. Increasing temperatures, changes in precipitation, melting glaciers and reduction in sea-ice cover changes the productivity and the distribution of the biological resources in the sea. Resources, that are essential for the financial and cultural environment on Greenland.
The present project will by using novel - state of the art - technology investigate, map and predict the consequences of climatic changes for the production at the base of the Arctic food webs in sea-ice, water and at the sea-bed. There will be particular focus on the interrelation between changes in productivity and the turn-over and the exchange of carbon dioxide and nutrients in the Arctic seas.
